A 13-year-old girl was fatally shot on Sunday afternoon in Iowa and a 12-year-old boy is in custody, officials announced Monday in a news release.
The Eldora Police Department and the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call about a shooting in a home in Eldora around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to the release from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
The 13-year-old girl was found dead and a 12-year-old boy was taken into custody.
Michael Krapfl, special agent in charge of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, told the Des Moines Register, part of the USA TODAY Network, that the two children were friends. Officials have not released any more information about the individuals involved.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was called to assist and the investigation remains ongoing. All information on the case will be forwarded to the Hardin County Attorney’s Office for review of potential charges.
